Fixed Speed – Variable Speed Water Booster Set Conversion
The Project:
We recently carried out a variable speed conversion of a cold water booster for a University in North West England. We were called in by the University to upgrade their archaic pump set and remove 2 steel cold water storage tanks. Replacing them with a variable speed set, and new sectional tank. Please see below the before pictures of the job:

The Logistics:
Logistically this job was very challenging due to the size of the pump set and the relatively small access hatch to the loft space. However, working closely with the University, we ensured we carried out all work with the minimum of disruption to users of the building. With regards the removal of the old tanks, we worked in conjunction with Hydraclean our chosen tank specialists who we work with a great deal. Over the course of 5 days, Hydraclean dismantled and removed the existing tanks and installed the new sectional tank. In addition, they did so without causing any interruption to the buildings supply. With regards the replacement of the pump set, we carried this out on a Saturday when the building was empty. Again, we did this to ensure as minimal disruption as possible.

As you can see from the pictures, the new cold water booster set and sectional tank utilise the existing space and plinths accordingly. Whilst also creating much more space in the plantroom. In addition, the existing fixed speed booster set was a considerable size. As a result, the new variable speed booster set should help site see significant energy savings of up to £2,800.00 per annum.
Once the booster set was up and running we handed back to the University on Monday morning. Pleasingly, they commented on how happy they are with the whole job, and the operatives we had on site. This is always great to hear!
